The last week of March

The time is flying by! This week we made a banner for the upcoming buddy bake sale, made our April calendars, and celebrated Pet Dinosaur Day. Read on to find out more of our weekly activities.

During our art time, Julianne came in to help us make a banner for the Laurel/Strawberry Creek Bale Sale. Using watercolor and sharpie, the children designed delicious treats, cut them out, and glued them on to the pedestals that were drawn onto large paper.

During Community Meeting, Kate came in to share some information about Zones of Regulation. Using color code, children can learn how to recognize where their body is on a simple scale and how to regulate themselves when needed.

Readers' Workshop

As our money study rolls along, we played a game where the children had to have the exact change in order to buy plastic animals from the Menagerie.

Terry and Tommy introduced the letter 'N' which is the Calf Sound.

Beckett introduced us to the conflict resolution strategy "A Bug and a Wish" in which a child can say "It bugs me when.... I wish you would..." A few actors helped us with some role playing scenarios. Feel free to try this strategy outside of school as well!

During Project Time we finalized our building plans and students got a chance to do some preliminary sketching.

During Math on Thursday, Nancy introduced the Montessori bead chain. The first graders began some textile design plans for their upcoming Book Pockets, which is a way to bring books from school home to read.

Happy Free Friday!

Doing some reading

At buddy time, we worked on our banner as a group, and went around to the other classrooms to advertise the upcoming sale.

Enjoy your weekends,
Lyssa and Ben
