Laurel Creek had a busy week of preparing for the holidays!
In Art, Julianne helped make gifts. (spoiler alert!)
Writing the Weekend News kept some students very busy.
Our Author Study on Jan Brett contained a variety of centers that related to her books. Children enjoyed creating a Mitten, complete with animals to fit inside. Hedgie, a popular and prickly character, was written up in some new adventures, as well as hidden in a forest with other animals to create math problems.
This week we also had math centers that explored symmetry. We searched for symmetrical letters in the alphabet with the help of a small mirror, designed beautiful symmetrical butterflies, and built symmetrical designs with pattern blocks.
Laurel Creek always enjoys Read Aloud Stories!
We also enjoy sharing and hearing Weekend News.
Ice Eagles working with Tanja,
teaching her all the Word Study digraphs and chunks they have learned so far this year.
The audience for a puppet show, created by a fellow student and starring all the animals featured in Jan Brett's The Mitten.
Finally, a set of holiday-themed centers that helped our class decorate the room and gift packages.
Creating a Jan Brett Mural for the class, complete with labels and torn-paper figures from her books!
And yes, it was Gingerbread House Day in Laurel Creek, too!
More Holiday decorating with our Strawberry Creek Buddies, making ornaments.
Thursday and Friday were really productive work days, with everyone finishing up important tasks so we could be ready for gift-giving!
May your Holiday Break be filled with fun, family, rest, and creativity!
See you in the New Year!
Much Love, Ben and Tanja!
