February 11th - 14th
This week leading in to the mid-winter break we paraded lions through the halls of the Chapparal House, deepened our work with the 100's chart, and celebrated Shark Day, Maquel's birthday, and Valentines Day
We worked with Julianne to practice our lion dances with the costumes we created the week before.
Morning Greetings
Each morning we greet each other. We do this in a number of ways. On this particular morning children were asked to find others with a matching sum on a domino.
We have begun a new author study. This time we will be looking at the work of Mo Willems who is already a class favorite. Students have begun to create book inspired by Willems' Elephant and Piggie series.

100's Chart
Students have begun working with 100's charts. We have been building 2-digit numbers, looking for and discussing patterns in these numbers and will soon begin to discuss counting strategies.
Shark Day
We celebrated shark day with Maquel. We sang our shark songs, read a shark book, and participated in shark activities at the tables.

Birthday Celebration
The birthday leap!
Buddies
This week Jeff read the Dr. Seuss' The Lorax and we then set to work with our buddies writing valentines for the earth.
Valentines Day
We had a reasonably low-key Valentines Day. We made sacks, had a sharing circle, and exchanged valentines.
Hope you have a lovely break!
